They’re all closed cockpit (I think the Ferrari may have open and closed variants), which is probably where we’re gonna be going.

Is the helmet integrated into the body on that Ferrari?...

I like the look of the McLaren. Looks like a real life version of a car from F-Zero.

I like them all but they won’t happen.

If they just get rid of those goofy 15” wheels and balloon tires, that would help. Honestly, I think if they all agreed on a common core structure and suspension attachment points and then had free reign with everything else - wings, track, wheel base, downforce vs drag, closed vs open wheel. It would be a much better series.

The wheels are actually 13”, but it doesn’t change the fact that you’re right about having to do a complete re-think in regards to the approach taken to build F1 cars. The tire size change has been put off for so long, and in my opinion the large diameter wheels don’t look right on the current generation of cars.

I think the renderings here are what F1 cars should look like today, and whether they’re true open-wheel/open-cockpit cars or ones with enclosed wheels and cockpits, the aim should be batshit crazy cars with batshit performance - I couldn’t care less if they went closed cockpit or with the enclosed wheels like the McLaren and Red Bull renderings here.

It’s a shame because rules in F1 are always updated to slow down cars when fans really want to see the fastest cars possible. I think the hybrid power units were a good start but other parts of the cars need to match the advancements in engine tech.

In any case, there are so many things that need to be looked at in F1 that rather than trying to apply bandaid fixes to the existing rules it needs to be thrown out completely and re-thought from the ground up.

I can’t help but agree. I can’t see where this would make any difference in a Filippe Massa type debris-strike incident, and I can't see it helping in a Jules Bianchi type accident (the impact took the upper roll-hoop off the car, that's equivalent to ripping the rollcage off a car at the base of the windscreen).

Thinking about this design more.....what if this could be a LMP car? Like the new Audi....kinda looks similar....

I thought an 18” wheel looked legit. If you continually chase tenths of a second you quickly run into higher costs. F1 needs to find a way to reduce costs and give the teams a bit more freedom. It is a very delicate balancing act.

There is no way FIA and especially ACO would allow a car with so little body panelling and such a thin cockpit. It needs extensive modifications.

No.... Having your helmet fused to the rest of the car is terrible thing.

Okay we now have two plausible competing designs. It may be time to consider a new racing series... F-Zero, or a serious realignment of Indy/CART.

How do you get your head in this helmet when it’s part of the fuselage?
